Christmas Eve

I am sitting looking at our Advent candle, which is finishing its burning by sitting in our front window. It signifies the light of God’s coming gift; the infant Jesus. The Kelsey Grammer musical version of A Christmas Carol by Dickens is playing. The never ending appeal of the story of a miser, cold in heart and soul, become not just generous, but loving and compassionate. Generosity is not everything, as Cratchit and Tim embody. Friendship, care, and love are essential. Wherever you are, and whoever you are with, I hope and pray that your Christmas will be a loving one. For those of you whose Christmas feels that it will be bleak, I pray that something or someone will provide the missing light and warmth. God bless Us All. Everyone.

Congratulations ARCHBISHOP Ganswein!

Well whaddya know? The Holy Father shot that one out of left field! Georg has been appointed Prefect of the Pontifical Household (so he’s in charge of the Pope’s household, I think), and he has been appointed a titular archbishop (one who is not involved with a diocese, but bears the title of Bishop or Archbishop). He will also continue as the Pope’s chief private secretary. It will be a big role, with a lot of work, and people who think he has too much influence already will not be impressed, but I am delighted! šŸ˜€

Advent; preparing for Christmas

This is a time of getting ready. Christmas doesn’t start until 25th December, and goes on until the 1st sunday in February with Candlemass.

I’ve been watching the music channels, who are starting to play the usual Christmas songs, and it was one of those that struck me. years ago, John Lennon and Yoko Ono sang “War is Over/If You Want it”. Looking at what is happening in the world, and especially in the Middle East and Afghanistan, I have to say, whether people shared their hope for a peaceful world or not, it certainly hasn’t happened.

These few weeks are stressful. What we need to do, somehow, is to step back. Even if you are not a Christian like me, you can still appreciate the occasion for its joy, for gettingĀ together with family and friends, for catching up and enjoying those friendships and relationships. They are worth their weight in gold. (I also love the glitter, sparkle and colour of the lights and dcecorations, for the simple reason that they are pretty! Sorry!)
